Can America Be Great Again?...from a Christian Perspective

This is the question the entire world is pondering…. “Can America Be Great Again?” We are all aware that America and the British Commonwealth of nations are blessed because they are the direct descendants of Abraham. God says through you (Abraham) all the families of the earth will be blessed (Genesis 12:3). We can all see that America has done some great things for the world. America is the most giving nation in the world, donating more than $410 billion to charity and giving even more time to help those than any nation in the world. America, despite all of its struggles, is the largest Christian nation in the world. Despite all of the good and bad things America has done, we do not have these blessings because of our actions (Genesis 17:6, 15-16). We have these blessings because God made a promise to Abraham, and despite what a nation does God always keeps His word (Numbers 23:19). God also gives us a template regarding how a nation can become truly great!
God states that for a nation or a people to be great, we must make His word and laws the backbone of our nation. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12). Unfortunately, for us our nation is currently in the midst of a struggle to remove God from our government and personal lives. What was once good is now considered bad and what is bad is now considered good (Isaiah 5:20). We are not supposed to be prideful, but rely on the Lord for all things. Often we hear about how great the almighty dollar is and about our great military strength. God does not like a prideful people who say look at what we can do without acknowledging the Lord (Deuteronomy 6:13). God says we need to remember we are just mere men and nothing more; He’s in charge (Psalm 9:20). We as a nation/people must remember that the hand of God, not men, has done all the wonderful works we see in this world (Job 12:9-23).
Lastly, God says we should love God with all our heart and our neighbor as ourselves—there is no greater command (Mark 12:31). Have we as a nation treated all people with the love that God commands of us?! If we are all honest we can look to current day trends and past trends that show we have yet to fully live up to a command God calls one of the greatest! This is one we can all apply individually on our own to love all men/women as God commands us since He created us all in His image. God makes it all so simple; He says how can I believe you when you say you love me, but you do not love your neighbor/friend/fellow citizen that you see daily?! God says you have not seen Me, but claim to love Me?! (1 John 4:20).
God makes it plain and simple; we must make His Word the backbone of our nation and “love thy neighbor.” If we cannot do those things we will never be great! And if we see our nation will not do the right thing, we must look in the mirror and make a decision ourselves to store God’s Word in our hearts and love all of His creation. There is no other way; God commands it of us. It is so simple, but we have yet to do it.
