God’s Will will be done

This time we find ourselves in has disrupted a lot of people’s lives and plans. It also has shown how true and applicable God’s Word is. The first thing that I thought about as I crossed out weekend plans for the past two months was some scriptures in James:

13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit.” 14 Whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor, that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. 15 For you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.

There are so many times that I have failed to say, “If God wills, I plan to do….” No, instead I make plans never considering that it is not up to me whether or not those plans go through. I cannot control what the day may bring; none of us can. We can only control how we react to what the day brings because, the truth is, God is the one that controls the day.

This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.  (Psalms 118:24).

Honestly, I am so glad I am not in control of what my day brings. In fact, I am grateful to not have that responsibility because I am not anywhere near wise enough to control my day. Accepting the fact that I am not in control and trusting God and His infinite wisdom gives me peace, and knowing that this life right now is not the only life gives me hope and joy. 

Our Father in Heaven knows the beginning and the end. He knows what is going on right now, and maybe He is hoping that it opens our eyes and ears to His will. God has a plan and a purpose, He distinguishes “the end from the beginning, and ancient times from what is still to come, saying: ‘My purpose will be established, and I will accomplish all My good pleasure’” (Isaiah 46:10). The truth is, no matter what anyone says, regardless if they are “experts,” it will not come to pass “unless the Lord has ordained it” (Lamentations 3:37).

So, as I wait upon the Lord during this time, I will try to learn and accept the fact that His ways are not my ways, and His thoughts are not my thoughts (Isaiah 55:8). For His ways and thoughts are much higher than mine (Isaiah 55:9). His Will will be done, and each day means we get closer to His Kingdom.
